Support Your Local Land TrustIf you enjoy feeding and observing wild birds then you know and appreciate the importance of providing the right food and other conditions in your yard. If we want the birds to continue visiting us in the years to come, it is imperative that we preserve significant areas of bird habitat outside of our yards. Longtime birders have noted a direct correlation between the disappearance of undeveloped land and dramatic reductions in the numbers of birds and bird species visiting their feeders. One of the best ways to help maintain fast-disappearing bird habitat is to support the Peninsula Heritage Land Trust (PHLT), a non-profit organization run by local volunteers. Dedicated to saving Peninsula open space and natural resources, PHLT protects land permanently through purchase of land, acceptance of donated land, and permanent agreements (called conservation easements) with willing landowners. You can contribute directly to preservation of local bird habitat by supporting PHLT. For more information pick up a copy of the PHLT newsletter at Wild Birds Unlimited or call (253) 853-5616. To keep our local bird populations strong, PHLT needs your help! |
